VIP is architected around the concept of business friendly distribution (BFD). BFD is a document distribution framework. It allows the distribution of digital information without restriction and enables the information owner to gather actionable knowledge about how recipients interact with the information as the information is distributed, viewed and, in many cases, redistributed. As the foundation of VIP, BFD allows the real actions of information recipients to create the basis of well-informed, objective business decisions by information owners. The monitoring and measuring of information distribution provides owners of sensitive and/or valuable information with critical insight into where that information is flowing. In addition to this business intelligence, VIP layers direct elements of security on top of the BFD architecture that include data loss prevention and digital rights management capabilities.
