Smarte Solutions Announces Piracy Management Licensing Agreement with Microsoft
Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft has licensed Smarte’s SmarteSECURE and SmarteMASTER piracy management software for protecting Microsoft® PC-based games and applications. The two companies will also collaborate on the development and marketing of additional software security solutions for Microsoft platforms and applications. In addition, Microsoft will designate Smarte Solutions as a preferred independent software vendor (ISV) for protection of Microsoft's intellectual property. “After careful evaluation of SmarteSECURE and SmarteMASTER, we have determined that these software solutions innovatively complement Microsoft’s position on software piracy,” said Andy Glaister, Director of Technology, Microsoft Game Studios. “Several essential factors led us to green light the partnership. Most significantly, the technology Smarte employs to secure our IP exceeds our expectations for compatibility and performance. These factors ensure that the end user experience of our valued customers is not affected. As such, support costs are kept low while the level of legitimate customer satisfaction is kept high. And, of course, the level and method of copy protection soundly support our anti-piracy objectives,” said Glaister. “Adding Microsoft as a signed customer is an important milestone for Smarte,” stated Bala Vishwanath, Smarte Chairman & Co-CEO. “It has been a pleasure working with the team at Microsoft Game Studios to prove the viability and additive qualities of SmarteSECURE and SmarteMASTER within the group’s business initiatives. The collective insight regarding real-world software piracy business issues provided by the Microsoft team proved invaluable to the evaluation process,” added Vishwanath. SmarteSECURE, featuring the Intelligent Security Engine (ISE) and Process Flow Design Interface, will be used to secure the Intellectual Property of Microsoft Game Studios software. ISE provides a multi-layered defense system to a target application right from the developer’s desktop. The Process Flow Design Interface provides an intuitive, visual format to customize and build the exact piracy management package needed for a specific product and its market environment. “In working with these products over the last few months, I anticipate several benefits arising from their implementation,” continued Glaister. “Chiefly, production costs will be noticeably reduced as we will have the ability to fully test piracy-managed masters in-house prior to sending to beta customers or for outside CD replication. The schedule efficiencies gained could reflect several man-weeks of internal production cost savings to our group. Additionally, the fail-safe mastering mechanism serves to secure the game at the developer’s desktop, reducing the risk of unprotected assets leaving Microsoft,” added Glaister. “Microsoft believes that protecting the integrity of its intellectual property is not only key to protecting its revenues, but also key to protecting the relationship Microsoft has with its valued customers,” commented Robbie Booth, Development Manager, Head of Anti Piracy, Microsoft Game Studios. “The interoperability of SmarteSECURE and SmarteMASTER brings a fresh, efficient, and flexible approach to the business issues surrounding the production of protected software products. I am excited about the opportunities to lower implementation costs and reduce the possibility of error during the release process.” “On behalf of Microsoft Game Studios, I wish to welcome Smarte as an official partner of our group. We look forward to a successful relationship,” added Booth. About Smarte Solutions, Inc. Microsoft is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corp. in the United States and/or other countries.
